Week 5: Final Project
I've thought long and hard about this final project (all of ten minutes spent brainstorming as hard as possible), and I think I have a few ideas for what it could look like. As for topic, I think looking into plays that feature rebellions like Antigone would be interesting. I think what conditions create rebellions, and what makes one successful are interesting topics to explore, especially in the context of a variety of cultures. Another idea I have would be the relationship between religion and government. I'm not entirely sure what I would specifically look for in this topic, but I am sure there are some interesting texts I could find. For example, in my research about the Bosnian War, I found that the Byzantine Empire, which ruled over the same area as modern day Bosnia, believed in a symphony between church and state. These two topics seem like good starts to my final project.
As for the format, I am a bit less certain. NeatLine, for all its faults, seems to be a great tool to track multiple timelines in different places. I am sure if I put in the effort, I could learn the system enough to put a mind-blowing project together. That being said, I do also think a podcast or narrated slides could work as well. I have already done a narrated slides, and it was pretty easy to set up and record. I think I will play around with NeatLine and see if I enjoy using it. I also wouldn't be opposed to doing an essay, either. I'll have to figure this out soon, I guess.
Hi Jalen! I'm glad that you are using your research from your previous research excursion to figure out a topic for your final project. I think rebellions as your topic would be great! You already have background information on it and you can expand on your previous research and find different texts and civilizations to include in your final project. I'm excited to see what you end up making!
ReplyDeleteHey Jalen! Absolutely love your honesty in this post. This project seems pretty overwhelming but it is nice we have a pretty long time to do it. I think your idea of rebellions in different texts is really interesting and I have been thinking of doing something similar. You could pick countries you know to have recent political revolutions or lots of controversy and try to find a figure to focus on.
ReplyDeleteHey Jalen! I totally agree that I think a lot of different formats can work out for this project, and I like that you are definitely keeping an open mind on that front! Your ideas seem like really interesting starting points as well-- I can't wait to see which one you end up choosing!
ReplyDeleteHey Jalen, researching rebellions for your final project sounds interesting! It would be fascinating to see the contrast between large scale rebellions and everyday rebellions such as Isma's decision to go to school in the US. I also think Neatline would be really useful to display your research because of the ability to interact with the map, but I think a podcast would be super fun to create!
ReplyDeleteHey Jalen! Those are pretty good research topics that I think would be incredibly interesting to take and explore. I, personally, really like the aspect of looking at different texts that have rebellions as a core theme. Can't wait to see which one you end up choosing!
ReplyDeleteHey Jalen! I'd also be interested in exploring texts with rebellions. I agree that each rebellion has its own background for how it came about and each rebellion often features a variety of cultures. I also like your other topic which would explore the relation between religion and Government. We see with our own Government in the US that there have been periods of time where the Government has struggled to separate itself from the Church.
ReplyDeleteHi Jalen, That sounds like a very interesting topic. Rebellions happen all over the world and why they happen, off the top of my head, do seem to change as the time period and culture change. Like simply a rebellion in America today would probably look completely different to the rebellion by the South in the 1800s due to technology advancement alone.
ReplyDeleteHey Jalen, thanks for sharing. I think the topic of rebellions sounds super interesting because rebellions have taken place all across history in different places. It's also something you could tie into current events and textual pieces. Excited to see where you go with this!
ReplyDeleteI really like your ideas for a final project. I think you are definitely on a good path as both rebellion and the relation between government and religion are somewhat universal and certainly apply to more than just Ancient Greece.
ReplyDeleteHey Jalen! I think you have some great ideas for a final project. As someone who is also considering a topic along the lines of rebellion, I think there is a lot to be said about this topic and a lot of connections that can be made to at least two of the texts we've read so far. I'm excited to see the progress you make on this!
ReplyDeleteThese are both great topics. The rebellion topic is narrower because it's focused on both a specific topic and a specific genre (dramas), which is helpful as far as helping you find primary sources. The church/state topic is definitely also possible, however. My main suggestion is to decide quickly so that you can start your research. Begin with the MLA database to help you find articles on the topic that can lead you to possible primary sources. Check back in with me! --Michelle
